Truck has been running great for a while. Yeaterday when idling it started to idle rough then cleared up. I drove around 100 miles yesterday without a glitch. This morning when started it was idling rough and after a few minutes shut down and will not start.
I don't hear the back fule pump running and the fuel canaster is only half full ... checked while changing the filter this a.m.
The truck is stock all but 5" exhaust and K&N intake.
Anyone have any suggestions for checking ...?
Won't start

Reason: spelling
It was 23 deg here this morning. Yesterday I ran for about an hour and was unloading my trailer when it began to idle rough, cleared up and was fine the rest of the day.
Thinking it's the rear pump. Normally when I turn the ignition key on I can hear it run, not this morning and changed the fuel filter. When I removed the old on the bowl was full ... when I installed the new one and turned the key I did not hear the rear pump and checked the bowl and it was only half full.
Like Rick already said, there are no pumps in the tank(s) unless you put them in there.
OEM pump is in the engine valley and is mechanical...not electric.
No air shocks ... the humming sound as if it comming from just behing the rear seats but underneath the truck ... I'm gonna crawl under there and see if anything is there.
I have had the truck for just over 4 years with the only repair I have needed was to change the fuel pump in the valley ... did that bout 6 months ago.
sounds like someone installed an after market inline electric fuel pump.
if you changed your filter you need to fill the filter bowl with fuel (I use strait powerservice)
than try starting it.
if there is an aftermarket inline pump and it has failed it could cause a restriction that the mechanical lift pump can not overcome.
I looked under the truck and there is a Ford electric thing hanging on the frame very close to the front tank on the drivers side. Could this be the electric tank switch component and id so .... if it fails will you still get fuel??

The transfer switch failed on a motor home I was driving in 93. I swapped the fuel lines to get off the side of the road, and 2x on refilling the fuel bowl.
So the fuel tank transfer mounted to the frame could be the problem ... is that right?
Is one of your tanks empty? If so yes it can be the issue. I have not looked at mine but I would think that there is a fuse for that as well and maybe the switch is not bad but the fuse is. Someone here probalbly knows if there is a fuse associated with it. The one I had was a bad switch. If yours in making noise it must be stuck trying to engage. Tap on it while its making the noise.
I found the fuse and it is ok ... the part under the truck has always hummed when I turned the ignition switch on, it doesn't now and will not start or deliver fuel to the fuel bowl.
