FX4 Locking Differential
Just checked out the GKN website... They say the locker can be used with any limited slip differential...Again, doesn't say it IS combined with LS, but then again, doesn't say it IS NOT.
While everyone has thier user manuals out... Can anyone tell me if the differential for the locker required friction modifier? The site also mentioned NO aditives or friction modifiers are needed for the locker... So if the FX4 differential DOES require the friction modifier, the transitive property would have you believe that it indeed DOES have LS along with the locker... And yes, the traction control works on trucks with a limited slip...

If you go to this link and look on page six it shows what is available for all trim levels.

It says in that same document that AdvanceTrac with RSC is standard on all F150s.
For those that do not want to click the above link it shows that the FX4 with e-locker is not available with limited slip.

Man this thread has me so confused.
I thought the issue in question was you cannot get the elocker and have limited slip? According to the link above the FX4 does not have limited slip (not even an option) but it does have e-locker. The rest of the trucks can come with limited slip.
According to the link above all trucks come with TC and RSC.
So what I get from the above link is you can have one of the following
- TC and RSC with Limited Slip
- TC and RSC without Limited Slip
- TC and RSC with e-locker no Limited Slip (FX4 Only)
Now I have no idea if those statements are 100% true but that link I posted above is from the Ford website.

I don't think I can say that arno. I looked at the ford f150 website and thought I would build my own. In fact, you can get LS and traction/stability control. However, you cannot have both as in a FX4. So, I stand corrected on that point. I have had years of training on these systems and the "pioneers" of these systems could not get it to work. Which, raises a new question in my mind(and another thread) which is how this system can mediate a "yaw" with individual application of braking to individual wheels. I did a little digging around with no direct results, but it is counter intuitive based on my decades of specific training. It speaks to the level of technology(or lack thereof) of this system. I know it works relativly well as I have been able to activate all of these systems on black-ice in safe circumstances.
So, I am appearently remiss on the availability of a LS with traction control. It's possible. I still have questions.
If I can find any pertinent info, I will post it here. All in all a great discussion of the realy neat, state-of-the-art technology of our trucks. Thats why I bought a Ford.

arno, It can be turned off temporarily. Punching the button on the dash will disable the system partially. It is speed and time dependant. The owners manual describes this process pretty good. However, I still contend that the "rooster-tail' test is not very conclusive as to whats really going on. Part of my confusion on this is that I am basing much of my info based on my 09 FX4 which has exclusive features - primarily the e-locker. Good info here.
I am with you, and know how, on how to turn the systems on and off, it just seems to be too limited for me. Having the ability to turn all of this completley off for as long as I want makes sense. I also have an 09 FX4 and take the truck off road, in the woods and occasionally mud and being able to run the truck with none of the TC systems would be nice. Just seems like Ford is telling me how to drive and control MY truck. Been a Ford owner for ever and will be, this is one small gripe!
+1 arno. You have to be able to spin in order to negotiate certain conditions. 90% of the time it's OK, but theoretically, on ice/mud the system will remove power to the point of...wel not moving. I have witnessed this on different cars, and hitting the switch off will only allow partial mobility. I think this is where the E-locker will really help, but it's nice to just keep the tire spinning and the truck moving.
I love the Ford products as well. I tend to look at vehicles a bit crittically and Ford usually makes the grade for me. Comparitivly, the Asian cars are as poor as they have ever been, and GM just falls on it's face - nothing new in 15 years from GM
