My truck is back on the road, and the next storm, I am going to plow with it. I was just wondering... for those of you who plow... do you plow in 4x4 high or 4x4 low?
4x4 high. With the c6 I had, I would pull it down into L1 when plowing, I didn't want the transmission shifting if I happened to get fast enough. Now that I have a zf I plow in 1st gear.
Also with my 80 f150, I would set the idle speed up on the carb a little bit when plowing, and it would pick the plow up a lot better. It had the stock battery and alternator. Now I am plowing with the diesel which has two batteries, and I don't have that problem.
i plow in 4 low. all plow manufacturers have warnings on there plows that tell you not to exceed 5mph with the plow down, then i know i have the torque available to move mountains of snow, and most manufacturers recomend when pulling a heavy load on slippery surfaces to use low range. I figure pushing in this case is similar to pulling. In plowing my driveway it doesnt shift out of first anyway...
