I dont think he was inquiring about trading his f-150, or about actually going fast.
Im pretty sure its okay to comapre acceleration between two vehicles even if there not the fastest things money can buy. Just because they are trucks dosent mean that someone cant be proud of how quick it is or upset how slow it is compared to another vehicle in its class.
Im getting sick of people saying go get a mustang if you want to go fast. You know what if i wanted to go fast i woulda gotten a mustang, but i have a F-150 and want to go faster than stock. Whats the big deal, people been making things faster since the dawn of the automobile. Just becasue its a truck means it cant go faster than Ford intended it to?
Anything wrong with that?
Sorry for the rant
Race your buddy and see to the OP. Id like to know whos faster, HP only takes you so far, where it makes its power in the RPM range can have a lot to do with how fast you go.
Yeah, I get all that, but in the end is it really that big of a difference? I just think its silly to nit pick about comparing speeds of two vehicles that barely break out of the 17's as it is. Especially when you consider there was a 5.4L option available if power was a real concern when buying the truck. It kinda reminds me of two Civic owners bickering about who can get their car into the 16's first.
My buddies Hemi powered '09 Dodge P/U would absolutely rape my '06 FX4 all the way through the power band....but it doesn't bother me in the slightest knowing I drive the better (and better looking) truck.

Changes to the intake configuration and ECU parameters I'm assuming?
In the end...does it really matter which is faster? We are after all driving multi-tonn shoe boxes. You want fast, buy a Mustang. You want a good truck, stick with your Ford.
Hate to burst the bubble but I have a 06 gt mustang convertable
.... If I want to go fast I take the 4 door crew cab 4x4. At 7k+ pounds it is faster than the mustang.

Not bursting my bubble at all.
My 4,200lb '96 Mercury Cougar is faster than 99.9% of the stock Mustangs on the road as well, but if I want to go fast and/or drive aggressively I don't chance trying to take a high speed corner or halt down from speed this battle ship of a truck I've got. Making it go fast is only a fraction of the equation.
Adding a little spunk to any vehicle is just mans nature…we like to burn rubber and make power…but I don’t deviate too much from the vehicles intended purpose. It just generally not safe, or for that matter practical for an F-Series pick up to do so.
I wouldn't go overboard on trying to turn a 4X4 F150 into a race car, just the same as I wouldn't attempt to go off-roading, pull a heavy boat trailer, or haul a load of firewood in a Mustang. Sure the cars got the power to pull do the deed, but its not made for, nor will it stand up to the task....at least not for long.
So where did we go from being a couple trucks going in as straight line to race car? And as far as fast goes is all realitive.
If the fastest vehicle in the world only ran 16s quarter then a truck wouldnt seem so slow at 17s. ( I mean this in a realitive term) these guys may have never driven anything faster, maybe they have. But in this instance its great for them, why you got to rain on there parade.
Well I came from a 01 Cobra and a BMW M3 but I lost my job and my wife is the only one working. I worked for At&T doing dsl and comerical telphone systems so I want to get a truck to do side work. I carry 24ft ladders, cable, plywood and the cobra or the m3 couldnt haul it so I went with a truck. I just wanted to know what truck was faster I love the f150. My buddy took his 07 ram 4x4 out hunting with us today and he was a P**** going though puddles and mud where I didnt even feel the Ford slip. It took my almost two hours to clean the truck but I enjoyed every min of it.
I would think the dodge would be faster. My reasoning is the dodge I lighter #1 and the ford programming leaves a lot to be desired on take off #2. Things might be different if you did a rolling race. I also think the dodges run higher gears helping the stop light style race.

Or better yet, find a good used Lightning, SRT10 Ram, or a Silverado SS.
