Going Green!

338 more wind turbines around me! We already have 321. 25 turbines will be going on the 3,000 acres around my place.

All that power will be going to california.................

No? 400 construction jobs and 35 permanent operations jobs. That's better than some coal plant belching it's schmutz across the Oregon border, yes?

Maybe, maybe not. Electricity generated from windmills costs around 50% more than that generated from coal. Are the folks in Ca going to pay for that or is it going to be the taxpayer in Oregon?

Californians Will be paying dearly for this power. The taxes paid to the counties will be a good boost to the local communities. Oregon taxpayers will MAKE money!

Average payout to those that have turbines on their property: $25,000 EACH per year. We are getting 25 turbines= $625,000 per year for 10 years

The 35 maintanance workers start out about 27 bucks/hour. Not bad pay at all. We have a couple of GALS that climb those towers everyday right here on FTE ( Snowbunny + Babybunny) The word from the state is they will have 10,000 turbines in the Columbia River by 2018.

Why would the folks in Oregon have to pay anything at all? Caithness Energy is the company that will own and operate the wind farms. They are a merchant plant, not a public utility. That means their only customers are public utilities.

Chump change for a utility like SoCal Edison. Yes, you will make a lot of money. But Edison is a shrewd business and they will be paying the going rate for power. No one will be paying dearly. If you will be getting that much, imagine what Caithness Energy is going to be getting paid. The company I work for nets $4 million from Edison after paying expenses. That's from a single gas turbine plant which has much higher operating costs than a wind turbine.

Rocket science degree not necessary. Power companys like to hire young people at the startup plants and put them through their training program.

Scott, what I meant by dearly was relative to what we pay for our power. We get all our power from BPA and the dam's. My cost is $.035 per kWh. The power from the turbines will be sold retail in California for up to $.16/kwh. 4 times my cost.

The local community collage has a program already in place, sponsored by the turbine co's, to train workers for the new wind farms.

Those things are ugly and noisy, so are coal plants, but for $25,000 a year each, I could learn to like them real fast! Where can I buy the seed to sow a few my own?

That is fair enough. However most of the "green energy" schemes seem to attract huge taxpayer grants to make them viable. But if California is prepared to pay the extra and doesn`t mind its industry becoming even more uncompetitive then, long live California.

i have applied with that co that does that. but they just said they won't hire anyone with no experience. thats it... maybe cali might but that company will not. so me being 48 far from young. scott like you said they hire young people and not me. see i'm already out the door.. sorry guys.. i'm not trying to pick a fight or arguement. but i'm unemployed and livin' on the system. whats wrong with hiring an older person??? thats what i don't get.........why can't i go thru the training program.

Showing your green/peta side!

What gets me is they stop turning when the wind gets up to 8mph or so. At least that's what I was told. I thought it'd be awesome to see how fast they'd spin during a hurricane!
