Oil Pressure

When I went to start my truck this morning it read no oil pressure, the oil light came on and I quickly turned the truck off. The temp was about 1 degree f and the truck was sitting all night. I waited about 1 minute and re started the truck and it was fine, I am using 5w-30 motor oil, and I never had this problem before. The truck is a 2000 Expedition 5.4 with out 85,000 miles. Has anybody had this problem before or is it just a fluke? I was wondering if it was just the oil pressure sensor not working because the cold but I'm not sure.

There are a lot of posts about this issue. It is scary to see your oil pressure drop but this is most likely due to the sender. Mine did this for a couple of years before I finally replaced the sender. Only does it in the cold weather and even after it bouces back to normal, it may drop to zero a few minutes later. 1 degree? Where do you live? Mine would act-up any time the temps got into the 20s.

I have a remote starter and the first time I noticed this, my truck had already been idling for 15 minutes with the gauge reading zero!

Same thing happened on a 02 F-150 w/ 5.4. during the winter months. It's the cold weather. With the wind chill here in southern IL it's hovering right at 10* and it's noon.

Sounds like a perfect time to flush the cooling system. I guarantee you'll get it done in 1/4 the time it would take in the summer.

Are you using an OEM filter? I undertstand some aftermarket filters do not have the check valve and some oil will drain down instead of staying in the oil passages for the next startup. When the oil is warmer in the summer, not a problem, but maybe the cold, heavy oil is not pressurizing fast enough.
