My ford shop manual describes two methods for adjusting the rocker arms on my 302 - a 'recommended' procedure and an alternative. The alternative is based on adjusting the rocker nut until the push rod 'can barely be turned' and then another 3/4 of a turn. The 'recommended' procedure is to force the lifter down until it bottoms (bleed down) and then use a feeler to adjust the stem clearance to the recommended gap.
The manual shows this 'recommended' procedure and a nifty tool for bleeding the lifter down. The tool slips onto the rocker arm and has a long handle - providing enough leverage to force the lifter to bottom and hold it while the adjustment is being made.
Does anyone know where such a tool can be obtained? Is there a slick 'do it yourself' alternative?
Thanks
Mike
