I saw...

A truck similar to mine the other night and the head/fog lights were of HID type. It looked bada$$ and I must duplicate it.

Do yall think it might have been something like these...
2007 2008 2009 FORD F350 F-350 XENON HID LIGHT BULBS #:eBay Motors (item 200414180071 end time Jan-03-10 12:26:25 PST)

HID XENON FOG LIGHT FORD F350 F-350 2009 2008 2007 2006:eBay Motors (item 180367622521 end time Jan-06-10 21:56:31 PST)

and if so, is there anything to be concerned about with installing them? I put Silverstars in my Mustang many years ago and they've been great. I saw these though and can't believe how cheap they are. The seller looks reputable though.

What do yall think?

Thanks
Ken

So did the guy just have replacement bulbs or did he have true HID bulbs with the external ballast? I would have liked HIDs with the external ballast but I didn't want to blind th eother drivers bad. I just got some Silverstar Ultras and they helped a little, the light is whiter.

I don't know unfortunately. We were in pretty heavy traffic in Turkey Creek, the local hot spot for shopping and eating, which you can imagine was crazy on a Saturday evening during the holidays. I saw his lights on the back of the car in front of him and knew they were different, so as I passed him I looked over/back and saw it was is headlights and foglights that had the same color and brightness. They looked AWESOME!!!

I don't think they would blind on coming traffic if they have the same pattern as my stock ones. My girlfriend lives on a hilly road and I can see my head lights have a pretty sharp horizontal cut off line as I'm going down one hill fixing to go up the next. Above that line there is really no light at all. It reminds me of a friends Lexus SUV that had true HID lights.

I wasn't directly in front of this guy to see how "bright" they were, but the color was amazing...without having a ghey purple or blue tint, just very crystal clear white and "brighter looking" from the angle I was at.

Must have.

For the price of the bulbs in the link you posted your not gambling a lot of money if they arn't what your after. Give them a shot a nd let us know how they work. Changing headlight bulbs is pretty easy.

That's the one thing that pisses me off about HIDs. They are REALLY BLINDING to other drivers. If you aren't out in the woods in the darkest nights, and really NEED them, what's the point?

Because it looks badass

I'll buy the ones in the link and see what happens. I'll wait until I get back into town and go by O'rielly Auto Parts and Auto Zone, got a few buddies that work there, and ask them what they think, if they offer something that might be similar.

Now, go out, drive around in a CAR - at normal driving height. Find a bunch of people with HID's and drive in oncoming traffic on a 2-lane road, or even a divided highway. Do this for an hour or two.

It gets REAL annoying when you can't see because of the glare

Seriously, large wings on the back of Honda Civics look "badass" too.

Although in the "driving lights" of a Superduty, which are not (usually) on all the time unless you need them, it might not be such a bad idea.

Check this out before you decided.

YouTube - Illegal HID Convesion Kits Explained

Then you may want to check your local laws.... I know this is a British clip but I have seen cars not pass inspection in Texas and Maryland

I would go with the Silverstars but that is just my two cents...for what that is worth.

My Mustang is about as low as they go, the only ones that ever annoyed me were the super blue or purple lights. Not so much bright, just ghey in color. It's not like every single person is doing this to their car. It's still pretty rare to see HID style lights at all, at least in my neck of the woods.

What do you mean by driving lights? The fog lights?

I guess I was more looking to see if anyone on here had swapped out their bulbs and what the results might have been. If what I saw was the real HID thing, I'm not forking over the coin for that set up. Nor do I want to be the obnoxious ***** that blinds every on coming vehicle at night. I was hoping it was just a better bulb and maybe someone one here might've had a suggestion on what that bulb was.

You can get aftermarket HID headlights with the ballast that put out tons more light than the stockers. Problem is they will blind the crap out of people.

for what its worth im running GE nitehawk platinums now... and im happy with the lite output over stock..

i had Sylvania silverstar ultras before, and while they might have been just a touch brighter then the GE's are, one of the Sylvania bulbs burned out in less then 8 months...

and (at least localy) u cant buy them in seperates.. with les then 1 year into those bulbs there was no way i was buying another 2 pack...

we'll see how long the GE's last....

from what i understand the reason the Silverstars are prone to burning out early is they produce more lite and more heat.. its the heat that kills em... which makes sence i guess...

I installed some silverstars on my sisters explorer a while back and one of them burnt out. Lasted a little over a year. So far so good with my set.

The SS had a one year warranty if I remember correctly. I had a factory fog light that wasn't sealing correctly and kept blowing bulbs. I kept taking it back and getting a free reaplacement until I finally took the Mustang back to Ford for a new foglight housing. Every time it rained, guaranteed, the bulb would blow.

I'll talk to my buddies at the auto parts stores and see what they got to offer.

HID is awesome but not cheap, and I'm cheap. And I just want a little brighter, whiter light. Not blinding laser beams. I want what I saw the other night, for $50 or less...LOL

I'm looking to upgrade my bulbs as in in my 08, I had the SS in my 05 F150 and thought they did a nice job, not overly bright but a slight improvement. I only blew 1 bulb in the 2.5 yrs i had them in.

Let us know if you get these, and how they look/perform.
