I changed the plugs on my 97 Expy. I think I got everything back together alright. The truck runs fine (runs like a scalded dog actually), but I noticed a noise when test driving it. Then today, the day after changing them, the check engine light came on. I don't have a code reader, so I am stuck until either I find the problem or I take it to the garage.
The noise sound like an exhaust manifold leak. I have not been able to find any cause for it. It is on the driver's side, and that is about as close as I can get to pinpointint it.
Does anyone have any hints or things they would look for? Unless I find the problem, I fear I will have to take it to the Ford dealer. I would rather not as evidenced by the fact that I was willing to give 4+ hours of my life to changing the plugs myself to make sure it was done right!!
Thanks

I found two rubber hoses I had failed to reconnect to the underside, driver's side of the throttle body assembly. The come off of the hot air pipe that comes off of the exhaust manifold. That is where the manifold leak sound came from.
I presume the check engine light will go off after driving it some more as it took about an hours worth of errands for it to come on. I still need a code reader. Guess I will go searching...

Try this, disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes or so, this clears all of the codes out of the OBD (just as you would re-boot your Pc) Start it up, and after a few minutes the engine will collect a whole new set of parameters, and the error code generated by the missing lines will be gone.
A dealer will charge you at least an hour of service to do the same thing.
