Fuel System Help!!

i just got done deleting my fuel bowl and swapping out my stock fuel pump with a walbro unit. a few weeks ago i added a carter lift pump to help the failing stocker then just decided to go ahead and replace the main pump as well. its been doing fine or so i thought and today i noticed the gauge on my regulator for my RR was bouncing around a little. its normally steady. i jumped under to truck to check out the new pump i put in and it seemed like its straining for fuel. i rolled back to the back of the truck where the dahl 100 filter is and i could see all kinds of air bubbles in the bowl. its see through. could the carter lift pump now be a restriction with the upgraded walbro unit and no second fuel bowl to push the fuel through causing the main pump to starve? thanks in advance......

Is your 100 mounted in a position you can "burp" it?

yeah i can burp it where its at but i normally dont have to since i have a RR in there. but the carter pump was the culprit! i just got done removing the carter lift pump and its back to normal with no air in the lines. the walbro unit is one bad mamma jamma! either that or my stock unit was really bad when i stuck the carter in there. before i put in the walbro the carter pump was loud as hell but after i stuck the walbro in you could hardly hear it. i have only driven it twice since i put the walbro pump in and this was the first time i noticed the fuel gauge jumping around again. i had so much air in my fuel my truck was white smoking like a sumofabich! i do think that the removal of the fuel bowl also had something to do with it since there is way less distance for the fuel to travel and one less filter to go through. when i was first considering putting the carter on there the numbers just didnt line up in my head with the main pump holding 65 psi and the carter only puts out like 7 psi. with a weaker stock pump and a fuel bowl it worked just fine though. i guess the walbro was just too much for the carter to keep up with.......

Glad you got it figured out. When I did my bowl delete recently I ditched the carter pump too. I'm running a a new stock pump sucking through a DAHL150 10 micron, pushing through a wix 2 micron spin on. My original stock pump died this summer. It was always "helped" by the Carter when the 150 went on. But the filter that came with the 150 was 2 micron. The vacuum gauge always showed about 8. Now it holds at about 1. Guess I'll see how long it lasts without help.

Isn't the Carter 90 gph? I'd think that would be the concern. What is the gph rating on the walbro?

at 65 psi the walbro flows about 50-51 gph. the carter is supposed to be rated at 72 gph. it doesnt make sense to me but one would think that using the gph numbers the carter would be more than suffice but by looking at the psi numbers it looks severely inferior.....

this one has left me ........

What is the part number of your Walbro fuel pump, where did you get it, and how much did it set you back? Anything you would do differently? Thanks, -blake

the walbro pump is the gsl 392 unit and you can get it off of ebay for 114 bucks shipped to your house. the only thing i would have done differently is put on a new primary pump first instead of adding a helper pump to a weak stock pump. you wont be disappointed with the walbro unit......
