I have a very annoying and embarrassing belt squeeling problem on my 86 F250, 300 six, V-belts. I don't 'think' the belts are that old. I know they aren't original, if there is a such thing as 23 year old belts.
Anybody know of any quick fixes that might stop the belt squeel problem???
I've heard that spraying WD40 on the belt and pullies might work.
You may be experiencing several problems here and WD 40 is definately not a cure for a squeeling belt. It will cause the belt to slip and you will have more problems than you now have. You will need to check that the belts have proper tention on them and if the belts are old and have been slipping they could be glazed and you won't be able to tighten them enough to prevent slippage. If they are in good condition and properly tentioned, you may want to check your fan clutch as it can become locked up from wear and the fan will turn faster than it should which puts extra strain on the belts and will cause them to squeel under acceleration. Hope this will help you some and good luck.
I had a very old mechanic when i was a GM tell me every time he did belts he would take some of that scotch red wool stuff and scuff up the inside of the pullys to knock off any debri and gives the belts somthing to bite on

How's it going, my man!?!?
That's exactly what my uncle said, what with the scotch wool and all.
Thanks for the quick responses, guys. I guess I will call around tomorrow and see who carries the belts I need for the best price. And also roughen those pullies up while I'm at it. I bet those belts are probably pretty glazed. At least I can have some spare belts now, so that in case one ever falls off I'll have a spare with me. Better to have a squeeling belt than no belt at all.
I only have one that squeals, but that is only when it's super wet out. Which is why I haven't replaced it yet... I have the replacement, I just don't want to replace it yet. I get my belts at Car Quest and Autozone, both are fairly priced.
Well it turns out I didn't need to buy any belts. Went looking for numbers on the belts to give the parts store and found that a bolt holding the alternator on had wriggled itself out, causing the alternator and therefore the belts to be loose, which must have been the squeel, cause it's gone now. Can't believe I didn't see that before.

Oh man that sucks! Too bad you don't know who did it, If I had known who did it, I would have punched the ****'s lights out.
As far as christmas goes I still have some shopping to do.
And dude, you don't even know how old I am. I bet you'll never find out either. (unless I told FTE when I got my account)
