So my starter began making weird noises this morning. Didn't think much of it the first time. It got worse and worse. I look at the starter and one of the long assembly bolts (one of the two that hold the motor pieces together on the outside) had snapped in two about half way up the threaded portion. It is a 7 mm x 1.00 pitch thread. Approximately 160 mm long. Does anyone know where to get a replacement? I don't want to spand $200+ dollars on a replacement when there is nothing wrong with my starter. Just this stupid bolt.
My truck is a 2001 F250 4x4 crew cab lariat. 4" lift and 22" wheels with 35" nittos. SCT livewire programmer.
I have looked a couple times for the edit signature section so I could put this info in my sig. Can someone point me in the right direction? I have looked in all the usual places.
You can contact Ed, here's his link, I'm sure he can help you, good guy.. http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...4072&year=2001 As for your sig., you need a certain amount of post to have that feature. Well help you get there, whatever the number of post's you need.. Welcome to FTE..

All my local rebuilders say they have to special order the part. I will need the truck by Thursday. May have to bite the bullet on this one if I don't find anything.
I have never seen this happen to a starter before. Guess the 7.3 is just a beast to turn over.

Welcome to FTE Sean. You'll get what you need. I had to replace my starter last week for the same reason, only I didn't catch it in time. Sounds like you're on the ball.
I don't know where you are located, but look for a "fastener" distributor (nuts & bolts sales) in your area. You will be surprised at the oddball bolts that they carry.

I am in Chattanooga, TN. I have called all the places I can think of. Got close a couple times, but no dice. Hopefully I can find one online. Otherwise I'll replace it and fix my current one to have ready for a spare.
