Spark Plug "Wires"

So, can anyone tell me what wire type is used for the spark plugs?

With the COP System, it does not appear to be your plain old spark plug wires typical to cars I am used to.

Why do I ask?

My #4 cylinder has no wire connected to the COP. When investigating, I can see the bare copper wire coming out of the taped up wire bundle.

I am not sure what I am going to have to do to repair this... Can I splice in a new wire? Will I have to remove a bunch of stuff to get acess to anything?

Should I just take it to a repair shop and forget it?

2001 XLT (5.4) with 129k on it, and needs several other minor maint repairs as well....

There are no spark plug wires. The COP sits on and is directly connected to the spark plug.

Don't you have 7 other cylinders with COPs on them to see how it's supposed to be hooked up?

It doesnt seem that simple, maybe it is.

#4 is way in the back, I can see the bare wire, like it was cut or burnt or something. The bare wire is maybe 2MM out of the taped bundle.

I am just wondering if I just splice it with 10ga wire or do I need to do something special. Looking at 7 other cylinders with tape covered wires does not really help me.

Slice the tape to expose more of the wire. This will make the repair much easier to do. You can wrap it back up with black tape when you're done so that dirt and water stay out. I'm fairly certain that the wires going to the plug on top of the COP is only 18 gauge, so I'd stick with the same size. Be sure to slip some heat shrink tubing onto the wire before you make the splice up. That stuff is a real lifesaver when making automotive electrical repairs.
