Engine Swap

Hi all. This is my first post on the Ranger Forum, although I've posted a few times on the F150 forum.

I have recently purchased a 1984 Diesel Ranger with the Toyo Kogyo (Mazda) built Perkins engine and a 4 speed transmission. The truck runs great, but the body is too rusty to repair. I have since found a 1986 Ranger 4x4 5 speed with a great body but the 2.6L is shot. I would like to transplant the diesel into the 1986 and retain the 5 speed and transfer case. It doesn't look like the diesel will match up the the 5 speed bell housing, though. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I guess the alternative would be to transplant the diesel and the 4 speed and eliminate the 4wd altogether, but I thought it might be interesting to have a rust free 1986 Diesel 4x4 Ranger that gets close to 30mpg when I'm done.

Thanks for any comments or suggestions.

Dale

I know this is a year & a half old but what did you end up doing? I am thinking about doing the same thing in a 94 4x4

Dave.

I still have the two Rangers, but haven't started the swap because I have a couple other projects to finish first. Can't believe it's been a year and a half since the initial post!

I'll post back when I start the project. If start your swap before I do, let me know how its going.

If I do it I'm going to try to use the '83 4 speed to my transfer case. Tomorrow I'm going to look at another 94 that has a tree fallen on it. The guy wants $1000 but we'll see. The 83 diesel is a Mazda 2.2 that needs a set of rings & 4 speed
