When I started the truck this morning to come home from work the fuel filter light was flashing. No big deal Autozone is just a block away. Stopped got a filter put it in in their parking lot, I have a 30 mile commute. Restarted truck, couple of seconds later light goes out. Drove home and just when I was about to shut off the truck I saw that the light was flickering again. The truck sat for about 4~5 months (reg expired and was lazy about renewing it) you don't think the fuel went bad over the summer? It had full tanks with a dose of howes additive in each tank before I parked it and I started it a couple of times in the back yard over the summer just to listen to it run.
hmmm. my guess is the fuel in the bowl went bad and gumed up the end of the fuel filter sensor. take out the fuel filter and take an old tooth brush and brush off the end of the sensor. you may also want to take out the heating plate"use a 7/8" crows foot the threads are right handed BTW!" and see if you have any big chunks floating around at the bottom.
good luck

What did the old filter look like? if it was really black and slimy you could have algae growing in your tank. if so about a pint or 2 of acetone in the tank and stock up on filters, when you start dissolving the algae it will clog your filters fast.

Mitch:
If I recall correctly the stand pipe holding the heater plate is a LEFT HAND thread.
