I just recently bought a 97 F250 4x4 with 200 hundred thousand miles on the clock. The motor is a 7.3 PSD and it has the E40D. I currently don't have any problems with my transmission, that I can tell, but from doing some reading it sounds like I may be on borrowed time with my tranny.
I have replaced transmissions before in older vehicles, but never a 4x4. Anybody know if this is difficult, and should I start saving my nickles for a new tranny. If I'm going to do it, I would like the best transmission possible. I'm willing to wager this is a job I would like to do only once. Any recomendations on transmissions would be helpful.
