It's getting more and more frequent. The truck doesn't want to start if not parked on perfectly level ground. if the road is cambered, it is flooded and I have to clamp the fuel line and crank it over a bit before it'll start. It then dies, I get out, unclamp the fuel line, and it works fine. Rinse and repeat.
Theory 1 - carb related... does this carb have floats or anything that is supposed to stop flow when not running ?
Theory 2 - fuel pump related... it's allowing fuel to keep flowing after the motor is shutoff.
# 2 no the fuel pumpwon't pump with the engine off.unles there is an aftermarket eletric fuel pump on the truck.or your gas tank is pressuring up, forcing fuel up the line.check you tank vents.
My guess is it sounds like it's time for a carb rebuild. IMO.
Any tips or links to a rebuild guide on the carter 1bbl? How bout rebuild kits?
I was looking for rebuild info. myself. I have never done one before, but I found a reman one from national carb for $150, and was thinking of going this route because of just " swapping out".
