My friend and i are doing an engine swap in my 2004 excursion. The engine that I bought for it is a 2006 with fire rings, rebuilt heads, rebuilt block with new crank, EGR delete, ARP head studs and keeping my 04 turbo because it makes 38 lbs of boost. any other suggestions or hints on what to look for? I just got the engine out today WITH HE TURBO STILL ON, which I heard cant be done. so before the other goes back in I just wanna know some secrets, if there are any
Did you have to remove the oil pan to pull the engine? It looks like it could be lifted out of the engine compartment much easier if you didn't have to clear the oil pickup tube and pan.

No I didn't remove oil pan, but you have to remove everything from the bumper to the engine.
I just got the good engine in and you don't have to take anything off besides the IDM. The turbo and up pipes won't be in the way if you pick the engine from the back and roll it out pretty much. It went smooth. Now the hardest part of the whole thing will be pitting the front end together again lol
the engine will come out as a unit you dont have to pull the pan or turbo to do it. I remove the turbo and the front end of the truck and its about a 4 hour job out and about 6 hours back to a running truck
