To add on to what Eugene said, cold oil also has pretty poor lubrication, just as bad as overheated oil, because the temperature is our of the additive package's range. Alot of race engines have pre-heated oil circulated through them before firing up to prevent piston skirt slap and cylinder wall scoring as well as bearing damage.
