head swap

I have a question that might seem stupid to some of you but I am gonna ask it anyway. OK...I've got a 93 efi 300 motor with a cracked block and I have a 84 300 rebuilt motor with a mild rv type cam, What I am trying to find out is if the 93 efi head will work on the 84 block and what the drawbacks or advantages might be or even if it will work? Any help would be appreciated Thanks!

the short answer is yes. there are a few small differences. the efi motor has no mechanical fuel pump, and has a knock sensor. there may be other small issues i am not aware of but there have been many people on here ask that and there have been more detailed answers than i can give you.

if you go to the main page of the inline 6 section there is a button near the top on the right hand side. it is labled "search this forum" you will probably find your answer there.

good luck

The EFI head will bump the cr about .5 and has fast burn characteristics neither which is particularly detrimental to using on a carbed engine.

the efi head has the fast burn, and less timing lead (read: recurve the dist) and a bump in compression, but it prone to cracking and does not flow too good. with a P&P you will end up with around the equivalent of a ported 240 head, but if your not gonna p&p, go ahead
