Should I pull my Engine

I have a 87 F150 351w auto

I broke 4 water pump bolts have 3 that need to be drilled out. should I drill them out in the truck put it back tougher stock.

OR
pull the engine put it on a stand where I can get at it better and drill the bolts.

While its out I could do some upgrades, cam, intake, headders, carb remove some of the nonfunctional smog stuff.

I worry about messing it up when I drill the bolts, and cash is short right now

IMHO that is a judgment call. I personally leave the engine in, because I am sure it can be done in the truck. I can certainly understand your desire to remove it for easier access, though.

I've drilled out a busted alternator bolt on a truck I had as a kid. Not fun. I'd pull it so I know I would have enough room. If you can wait until tax time - do the mods while you have it out. If you need it on the road drop it back in and go.

Now if were on my van - I'd be drilling right there in the engine bay simply because its too hard getting that monster out.

Why not just pull the front clip off, then drill the bolts out? Seems that it would be easier and less time to do.
