No heat!

hey guys,
i did a search to find out why my truck wont blow warm air and found that its my heater box or my blend door.
i know how to fix my heater core but i dont know what to do about the blend door. how can i test if this is working right?
i also just put a new waterpump and thermostat in it the truck so those should not be the prob.
thanks for any help
mitch

Think you have air in the system? just a suggestion also did you happen to use any stop leak products before you changed the pump if so that would plug your heater core.

what thermostat did you go with?

Good luck man no heat sucks!

blend door is simple, just remove the glove box door and remove the panel from the heater box. there might be some other stuff in the way (relay or something) after removing the panel (6 screws i think) have your wife/girl friend stick her small hands in on both sides of the blend door and get all the pens and pencils and hair clips and 30.06 shells out and put back together.

Pen also...

Recollect that temp **** went all the way to hot. I also recollect that it can be very difficult to feel if blend door is jamming, or if there is anything in there. You might hear an obstruction rattling around as you move the blend door.

I had half a sweatshirt chewed up and carried in there by critters blocking mine!! (Before I got it).
I pulled the motor out from the engine bay side (pretty easy) and reached in there and got all that out by hand and with a vacuum.

To the OP, what does your temp gauge show?
And just becasue you have a new stat doesn't mean squat. I went threw 3 before I got one that worked.

thanks for the reply guys.

waljon, i did not use any stop leak products in my cooling system ever. and i supose i could have air in my system but i let the truck run with the RAD cap off for about an hour and kept my rez topped off while filling the system. maybe ill go back out and see if i can get it to take more yet.

Jim, My temp guage reads right on the 0, right where it always was before i did all of this. and i dont know the brand name. i think its a parts master or somthing. same kind i used in my dually and had good luck with that one

thanks guys.

ohh ya i dont have the fan on my truck would this have anything to do with anything?

If it is air you need to go for a good run get it up to op temp then crack the rad cap Slow

Also if it doesnt end up being the flap or bad thermostat try flushing just the heater core you would be amazed on how much crap builds up in there.

waljon, i have ran the truck for about 1k miles and the fluid has not dropped since i did the waterpump. but i will double check. i hear these trucks can be hard to get the air out of the system.
last night i did take compressed air and tryed to blow out the heater core. i could not tell if i blew any crap out, all i seen was steam cuz the truck was hot when i did this lol.
how should i go about flushing out the core? just put a hose on 1 of the tabs and let water run through it?
thanks man
Mitch

Yeah you can unhook the hose on the left of the core and put a piece of hose on for a drain then take the other hose off at the water pump get a barbed fitting hook your hose up and flush .

Sounds like you are getting warm coolant in the core so maybe it is the flap stuck?

You must have spilled coolant when you blew air in the core how warm was it?

I don,t envy you I don,t live far from you and know how cold it was last night hope you get it fixed.

I noticed your dually is a 95 and your other truck is a 97 I think they use two different thermostats One long stem one short could you have the wrong thermostat

100% sure i told them it was for a 97. and they also had to order the one 4 my 95 but had the 97 in stock and i asked why they did not carry the 95. they just said they did not sell enough to stock them. so im pretty sure i have the right thermo.
thanks

Blend door is common problem.
The wrong therm won't cause a "no heat" condition.
The cooling system is self bleeding....

Are both heater hoses hot...at least as hot as the upper radiator hose.
If so, the heater core is OK.
