i've had a few inquiries , here and elsewhere as to what the bird irs looks like as outside of larry , and a couple of others on here noone seems toi think it's worthwhile or compatible with our effies . well heres a pic .Attachment 19325 i spent the better part of two weeks arguing with this portion of the car so ...... anyway the two rear mounting points are exactly 34 inches center to center . the fronts are 41 if i remember right . the brackets have to be cut and moved , and somewhere i got a disc of pics of larry's build { mytbgtrk } showing that . i'm taking the top coil spring mounts off the 91 and if i don't go coilovers like i'm thinking i'll modify a set of front oe mounts i have to work for them in the rear , the bird shocks . well i'm off to the black hole again to start on the engine cradle , motor and trans ........... this car is eat up by rust and all the fasteners are rusted solid ....................
How's the tread width? that sure looks very do-able. The front mount would be easily fabricated since it just holds the unit on place and would clean up the appearance a lot as well.
I have always liked the IRS T-Birds. Rides handles great for a midsize car. No availibility problems on the axles, or differential, but alot of the bushings and control arms and sway bar stuff is discontinued from Ford, anyways...I know that diff is plenty tough, but I wonder if the CV axles are stout enough for a truck application, need heavier springs, probly...
I had to fabricate a spring pocket.rear mount and cut the front mount and raise it up to the frame. also welded shock brackets and used another set of shocks.
