Anybody know where I could get a new speedometer for a 2006 SD for cheap(er)? My local Ford dealer wants $500 for one, and that's not installed. As soon as it gets cold, it quits working. It's doing over 100kms/hr parked in front of the house. One would think they could put a higher quality speedometer in a $60,000 truck.

I don't know about getting it cheaper, but here are some FYI's.
They had an issue with some of the clusters in that year truck. My own truck has a problem once in a while, where the speedometer is way off and does not go to zero when you shut down. Twice it happened to me, and both times it corrected itself before I could get to a dealer to show them. Both times I was away on vacation, cold and wet weather. I'm still under warranty (extended) and I should get it replaced. Just haven't done it.
It is not a DIY job to replace the speedometer. It's part of the cluster and is all electronic. The new one must be programmed with info specific to the truck. I don't know if a good speedo shop could do it. Usually it is a dealer job.
You could try getting a price from Ed at Y2K parts, a sponsor here. But you will still need to deal with a service visit to install.
Thanks for the info - guess I won't be doing it myself. Probably won't be doing it at all. I'm not going to pay nearly 1000 bucks to get the speedo replaced. It's too bad it wasn't a safety recall. Maybe if people had made a big enough stink about it, they would have replaced them.
mine just started acting up...the speedo will be at 10-40 mph above what it should be and the tach will be about 1000 rpms lower than what it should be...it started with the tach and that came and went, now the speedo is acting up and it comes and goes too...
does anyone know if by the guages being off will it give me any problems with the truck? shift points, engine oper, anything negitive? it doesn't seem too from what I have noticed...I don't plan on getting this fixed anytime soon due to the cost involved.
