I just bought a 1995 f250, 7.5l with the E4OD automatic transmission. It has 77,000 miles on it. I have absolutely no hint as to the maintenance this beast has had, but I want to start clean. I'm changing engine oil, coolant, all filters, etc. but I can't find any discussion in the manual of when to change the transmission fluid. Did I miss something? Is this perhaps like the differential: don't touch until 100,000 miles? This is my first Ford pickup and I want to treat her right, but having some trouble with the limited info I find in the owner's manual. I'm not a gearhead, but want to do all I can myself, without risking damage!
Thanks for your help.
Changing ATF Fluid in a E4OD and 4R100 transmission .: Articles
Here is a good writeup on how to change the fluid by one of the transmission experts on the site.
To answer your question, as you don`t know the service history of the trans, I would change the fluid now and then every 30000mls.

Just did the ATF and filter change as per the link provided by Lazy K - worked just fine! I found the thing only had about 10qts in it, rather than the expected 19, but now she runs and shifts real smooth. Hope there's no long term damage. Thanks again for the help.
