With the Banks kit they recommend turning it up 1 flat at a time until you get the fine haze at wide open. Now if you turned it up 2 flats then down 6, you went backwards and the poor thing is starving for fuel. Think about it this way, the faster you go, the less max rpm you can get out of it with low egt's and no smoke. The reason the rpms decrease when you mph's increase is because of all the drag coefficiencies are increasing and taking effect.
Another words, I'd turn up the fuel atleast back to stock and start from there.
And i just remebered something, im n/a and im turned up 1.5 flats, and i dont really have alot of smoke and i barley have any past 3500, and none past 4000, i have no idea why yours would go egt craazy
I am also going to say add a flat or two on the fuel setting.
If the exhaust is still stock, that big muffler and small pipe help keep heat in the engine and higher EGT's.
8700 empty weight, extra wind resistance from the bed and 900 max egt, more fuel is needed.
I always preffer to have to back out of the throttle on long hills to control EGT's when they get high instead of not being able have the extra power when I need it.
Pre turbo thermocouple, run it up to 1100 max EGT and you still have a 150 degree safety margin.
Even the NA engines may be surprised at how high the EGT's are when they install a pyrometer.
I have a feeling you will have to stop increasing the fuel because of boost pressure before you reach 1150 degrees.
Yeah Dave, I know it will be touchy. You know, I was hitting 1200 going over an overpass last spring when I drove to new Mexico loaded.
I actually backed the fuel off 6 flats and go the egt down to 1050 loaded.
Then my transmission guy blocked off the waste gate and gave me 2 psi boost over the full range. At the same time my egt numbers dropped to a max of 950. I will give it 2 flats increase, load the truck and test it. If it does not go over 1050, then I'll try another flat. All the while I will be watching the boost to make sure it does not go over 10 psi. I keep hearing about all these high powered 6.9's, well I don't got one. I would like to achieve 75 mph empty. I also know my truck is geared to tall for pulling. I wish it were a 4:11.
thanks for you help.
I do not seem to have any leaks in my turbo piping, and I also have a 3 inch down pipe. The engine runs sweet and does not run hot. The temperature stayed at 195 with the pedal on the floor for 3 days. And I was crusing at 70 mph. I also got excellent economy, I don't figure mpg, but I know I was not filling up very often.
Dave, As I said earlier I'm getting a knee replacement Tuesday, so it will be several days before I can make any adjustment. When I get more data, I will start a new thread.
what shape are the injectors and ip in? and it seems like i fantly remember you saying you were having the ip turned up but it didnt sound like the normal place everyone turned it up at, this was a while ago tho? so i dont really remeber

Dumb me, I figured out what you mean. You think, because we blocked off the waste gate, if i increase the fuel, my boost will go too high. You may be right, I will keep a close eye on the boost numbers.

The mechanic that rebuilt the engine 30k ago said he also rebuilt the pump and the injectors. I really don't know what their condition is, but it starts and runs good. He is the chap who turned up the IP when I added the turbo. He took the top off the IP do it. That was the way he adjust's IP's. I turned the fuel down myself, by removing the side plate. My mechanic passed away this past summer. Looks like I'm on my own now.

Once I liquidate realestate here in Florida, I plan to relocate to New Mexico. At that time I will downsize on vehicles. I will get rid of the IDI, Silverado, and the Tracker, and replace them with 1 vehicle. Thinking about a Toyota Crew cab and install a small 5' X 6' dump bed. I have a scissor for a pickup and I will no have a need for so many vehicles. A tag for the IDI has jumped to 153.00 per year. I downsized before from a F-700 to a F-450, so its just another step for people who are getting old.
Nine miles north of Ruidoso, in Alto. built a house in 06 and 07, then completed my shop this summer. 12 inch snow there last week, I'm mad as hell, because I'm not there. LOL
I know you are in new mexico, maybe we can have coffee. Well you are sort of in new mexico.
