Just doing some routine maintenance on the diesel today and decided to pull the bolts from the FPR and clean the screan that goes into the fuel bowl. Much to my suprise, it isn't there. I looked in both ways and there isn't anything there. Looks like on the small white tube that sticks out from the FPR that there was one at one time, but now there isn't.
What kind of problems does anyone see by this not being there?
Also, thought I would do the FPR mod while I was in the area. When I pulled the cap off I had to pull pretty hard on the spring to get it out, but the plunger wouldn't come out.
Any thoughts on this as well?
flash light mirror and as magnet! normally I find the screen down under the fuel bowl in the valley of yuck with out the screen the regulator will get clogged. (could explain next problem)
as for the plunger some tweezers or forceps some patience and a lot of wiggling

I am confused (magine that), is there a hole with no screen? Or no hole at all?
Yes, there is a hole with no screen. I don't know if the screen fell apart and is no longer there, which should destroy the regulator, or if the previous owner took it out, or if maybe it just fell out when I removed the regulator and I didn't see it.
Looks like Pete has the part # for you above. I don't know how they are held in there. I also don't know what that part is screening from. I would maybe think about taking off the whole FPR and or filter housing brining it inside taking it apart and cleaning it up real good in some gas or something. I am not sure but someone else will advise a little more.
