I have an 99 F-250 V10 and the torque converter is slipping/shuttering when engaging. I drive it occasionally and do not do any serious hauling anymore. Is there a way to keep the torque converter from locking? Need just a simple mod, don't even need a switch in the cab to go back and forth.
I just noticed you have a '99. Ours did NOT come with a trans cooler in the radiator - all it has is the single external cooler. I found this marginal on hot days, even when not towing. In 2000, Ford added a loop through the radiator.
If you no longer have lock up, the trans is going to generate a lot more heat. Definitely add a temp gage and watch it. I suspect you will need to add additional cooling - either swap in a new radiator (I believe all replacements will have the trans cooler plumbing) or add additional external coolers.
