explorer motor information

Hey, could anyone tell me if the 1996 explorer 4.0 had the pushrod or sohc motor? Looking at one locally that has lots o miles and needs a tranny... have a motor to replace from a 2003 ranger edge, but no comp or tranny.. might be able to rebuild tranny...but yeah, it would be much appreciated if you guys could tell me...

The '96 4.0L in an Explorer should be an OHV motor, not SOHC. The '97-'98 could have either. If the 8th digit in the VIN is an "X" it is a push rod motor.
