I was hauling a trailer with a tractor (ford 9N) Not to heavy. My temp gauge gets close to the point of the dummy light coming on "engine temp". I wouldnt think this should be the case. The hill was pretty long and steep (about a mile long) Is there something I can do to keep my temp down? Anti freeze is good, radiator is clean. Would fans help? I dont know the exact temp I need to put a gauge on it yet. Could this be simply because the pump is turned up?
Either hook up a mechanical gauge or temp probe to the upper rad hose and see what it's really running at. You may just have a faulty gauge which is common. If its confirmed getting hot then I'd start with fan clutch because like others had posted, it should lock up and roar.
I was running 80mph for a while and watched it go up. At a point my dummy light came on "engine Temp". So I slowed down and let it cool down. It was a very warm day, and this was before I had put on the new injector pump and lift pump. Is there a way to rebuild my clutch fan or just have to purchase a new one?
I have had my 6.9 working pretty hard on several occasions and never had any overheating issues. I have never seen it get over 210 degrees. I have my factory temp guage and an aftermarket mechanical hooked up and according to the mechanical guage the fan clutch locks up around 210 degrees. Does this sound right? IIRC the 6.2 and 6.5 GM diesels in the HMMWVs I used to drive would kick on the fan around 210. I also would say time for a new fan clutch, I think I paid between $70 and $80 for mine.
