1992 F150 Needs New Engine

Hi all,

New to the new truck thing...miss the old carbs!

Anyway, I have a 1992 F150, 2wd, Auto with a 302 EFI Code N engine in it now...

Dead on #7 and compression is low all the way around (according to mechanic)...

So, instead of pulling the heads off and having them redone leaving me with a weak bottom end I am going to look at putting a used motor in the vehicle. It's not my first choice, but money is REALLY tight in this house right now...

Anyway, which 302 motors will work with my truck? Does it have to be a truck motor? How common is the code N motor and was it only a truck motor? Which year motors would, all EFI of course.

While I have done a 400 from an LTD into a 78 F100...that was simple enough. I am not up to date on the computer controlled EFI motors...so any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Rick

dont install a car motor as the cam will not be suited for your truck. I would get a 302 from an 87+ as this will have better heads. just migrate your intake, dizzy etc over from your current setup. or do a 5.8 swap.

i would not even bother with a 302 i would go with 351. if this is your every day driver go fuel injected if not go carb. i recently did this swap. you will be much happier with a 351
