hello all.i have an 04f250superduty4x4.when i come to a stop i get this "bump" in the front end.My mechanic checked it out and is stumped, couldnt find the source.he did notice the driver side front spring was leaning and the shackle bushing(in the rear of the front spring)had to be replaced.he said he had a hell of a time getting the spring back in place, reccomends i take truck to a frame specialist.got the truck back yesterday and noise is still there.anyone have any idea what might be causing this bump/knock thing?the spring thing has been this way for a long time but the noise just started a couple weeks ago.thanks in advance.
I just bought a used 99 and it was doing the same thing, mine turned out to be lower ball joint. You can check it out yourself by jacking up the front wheel , get a long bar put it under the front tire at an angle to get leverage and see if you have movement up and down in the front wheel. sometimes it may be ness. to have a helper and have someone look on the backside at the lower and upper balljoints to see if they have excessive movement... dont forget to use a jack stand if someone crawls under the truck.
ball joints are good,i guess when it gets bad enough it will show itself.when i find out what it is i will post,my truck cant be the only one.still better than bowtie and brand x right?
You can jack up a front wheel, grab the top and bottom of the tire and try to move it (push on top while pulling on bottom). If so, then you need ball joints.
Since this clunk happens while braking, check your brakes out. It might be a caliper slide pin issue.
Mine was the rubber sway bar bushing that attaches the swaybar to the rod coinected to the frame. Found it after about 41K, but Ford Service ciouldn't find it under warranty.
