I did the mod to make the overhead display always bright. But this got me curious. Is there a way to make the radio and everything always stay bright when the lights come on. Somebody should look into that and let us know.
Here is a chart of wiring that I found that could help you.
Radio 12v lt. green/purple + radio harness
Radio Ground black and black/lt. green - radio harness
Radio Ignition pink/black or lt. green/yellow + radio harness
Radio Illumination lt. blue/red (dimmer) + radio harness
Factory Amp Turn-on dk. green/purple + radio harness
Notes: This is the subwoofer amplifier turn on lead. The subwoofer and amp are in the driver side rear corner of the cabin. The subwoofer speaker wires are brown/orange (+), and red/black (-) at the radio harness.
Power Antenna N/A
LF Speaker +/- orange/lt. grn - lt. blue/wht +,- radio harness
RF Speaker +/- white/lt. grn - dk. green/org +,- radio harness
LR Speaker +/- gray/lt. blue - tan/yellow +,- radio harness
RR Speaker +/- orange/red - brown/pink +,- radio harness
Immobilizer Bypass Module: Required: Yes Type: SecuriLock Part #: 555U

So you think you could just pull the blue/red wire and be all good? It's the same color as the overhead dimming light, so it makes sense.
I would also like to know if this works. if anyone tries it please post the results. if not i may go and pull my wire and see.....
It doesn't. Or at least pulling the blue/red wire doesn't do it. But it does blow your exterior illumination fuse when you do it. So if anybody knows how to do it though let us know.
The Fuse blew just by disconnecting the wire. or did the wire get grounded
So I was wrong. Pulling that wire didn't blow the fuse, it just got grounded. BUT, this mod doesn't work because it cuts off the radio button lights. Too bad
I should have ask if you tested for voltage. when you cut the wire did you check for voltage on the wire out of the radio / or the wire in the harness. I would test it for voltage with the light on/off. Then you can tie the wire out of the radio to +12 or ground
to get it to stay bright, let us know what voltage you find.

Well obviously the illumination/dimmer is all one wire. No dimming = no lights period. But I thought about cracking into the radio and seeing what causes the display to dim, because there's got to be something on the radio's circuit board telling it to dim when powere is applied to the button lights. Seems like you could disable whatever that might be.
