I did the harpoon mod on my truck and have had some issues with my fuel guage messing up. It reads full for about the majority of the tank and then when it's time to fill up it will move down to about the 3/4 mark and the fuel light then comes on. When I did the mod, it was hard to make the sending unit tabs line up perfectly with the slots on the tank while at the same time fight the hoses pulling up on the sending unit and also fight with that annoying cap. But I do know that it was somewhat close, but I don't think it was perfect. Would this slight mis-alignment cause the guage to not work properly? There was some arrow on top of the sending unit also, but I couldn't tell which direction it was supposed to be pointing. Does anyone know the answer to that one?
I have had my tank out 3 times 1st-pick-up screen fell off and I would run out of fuel at 1/4 tank -so when you have it out again put a hose clamp on the black pick-up screen and the tube, 2nd time to fix the fuel leak I created by not tightening the big ring. So now I'm a pro-except I still can"t figure how to remove the 2 fuel lines. Last week I harpooned the tank, This is what I did when putting back together, large green seal - held in place with a couple drops of super glue, inserted the top, lining up the tabs-- cut a 2x2 to wedge between the frame and the cap to hold it tight to the tank openning, I had to slightly bend the fuel lines up to get the ring aligned correctly to start it. Tightened the ring with a 16" piece of 1/1 alluminum channel-watch out for the fuel gauge wires. had to repair mine. The wire on the float springs back to shape so i think that your cap is turned.

I hear ya about becoming a champ at pullin these things off. I managed to get it down, fool around with it some, and back up there on my second time in about a half the time it just took me to get it down on my first try. I'll have to check all of that stuff out when I get it down again. Hopefully next time will be my last time ever having to touch it again. Thanks for the input.
