I'm glad I'm safely inside the argent time frame with that truck. Unfortunately its front end was smacked during its life and replaced with '52 pieces judging from the "FORD" logo over the grille and ironed out fender. So this is the only way to know what the original grille color would have been. Thanks. Stu
Shoot, remember also though, and I think this is right, that the Argent color was only on the 5 Star Extra Cab Models - the regular "5 Stars" had the grille painted the same color as the body until the "Ivory Change"...Yes/No? I'm assuming yours is an Extra Cab.

Reaching back to one of your first comments, this has been debated here, on the only BB site, and on the EFV8 club site for years. I've not heard it said, though, that there was the color difference between the early 5 Star and early "Extras". And, going back to Wagner's book, the truck he is describing in the quoted passage is a base 5 Star, not an Extra. So, you may be correct. I've just never heard that before.
In my case it won't matter because I've got all the pieces to do the truck as an "Extra". Stu
There was the 5 Star Cab and the 5 Star Extra Cab. Difference was in the options, brightwork and hood trim. Extra hood trim, stainless steel w/s trim, chrome door glass division bars and wing window frames, two-tone upholstery, door trim panels, armrests on the doors, door key lock on the left side, passenger sunvisor, cigar lighter, radio, dome light??. There might a few others that I'm forgetting.
My comment about the Early Argent Grille for the 51 "Extra Cab" came out of the sales brochure. See the picture below Item 3 under Extra Cab. These little things were so discretely tucked into some little corner so often that many times they just got missed. You will probably not be able to find that comment anywhere else in the Ford Docs of the time.
And I mis stated above - again - the 5 Star Cab Grills were Ivory per the spec I posted above. Later 5 Star Extra Cab Grilles switched from Argent to Ivory mid year. So I think actually we are all saying the same thing. The grilles came in the same color as the trucks (prime) were school busses and larger cab only, etc models. So, I guess I didn't write that out enough. Ok, I just lied again.
So then, 5 star was just a bs marketing term for standard cab, where "extra" was the deluxe trim option package. There's my learned thing for today. ;-)

Denny! Paint it Argent. If you do, I'll probably be the only person to tweek you on the end of the nose if I see your truck at a car show.
Besides, Argent does look really nice. [/quote]
Julie ,took your advice & painted the g-box door , ash tray cover & speaker grill Argent . They look awesome next to the bright red & chrome .
Also painted both Magic Air Heaters w/ correct badges ( one w/ a 12 V motor for the 1ST-RIDE & the other w/ a 6V motor for the stock truck )the same Argent color . Quite a job since both were taken apart , each piece media blasted , minor imperfections filled ,primed and paintedand reassembled . Will try to post some pics if I can finally figure that out .Got any tips ? Still need to send the emails I had w/ your Dad about the heater boots .I saved them for some reason .I guess it was for us to share . If you are interested let me know .Thanks ,Denny
