48-50 guage pics

I am picking up some guages this week. Some black / white Autometers.

I was going to do the aluminum insert route but changed my mind. How about posting up some dash pic of what you have done so I can gather some inspiration??

I am thinking of doing something in wood for both the guage insert and the center of the dash. Possibly a quarter sawn oak stained dark and maybe a white oak trim at the top of the dash center section. The putting an Ford logo in the center. Not sure. What have you all done?

Here are my gauges. I used mirrored plexiglass and fit it into the original housing. Used VDO gauges.

effie1,if you set on using wood, why not try something like cherry or an african mahogany(that is some of the prettiest wood i have seen in a long time)or some steamed beech if you want to put a stain on it,IMO there are a lot of other woods you could use that look better with a coat of lacquer on it that any oak does with a stain on it that hides the true beauty of the wood.at work i sell hard woods to cabinet maker all day long if you like i could get some pics for you and post them.
wood is cool .

To tell you the truth I am not married to using Oak. I am not really trying to be too upscale with the wood but mostly trying to do something different and with in my skill set. I thought about mahogony for the dark color and mable for the light color , similar to a woody wagon look.

effie1,sorry i didnt mean to bash.it just seems that the first thing that people seam to think of is oak.
i think these trucks would look great with some wood trim in them, most of the panels are flat and could be covered with a veneer like the gauge panel, that would be very easy to do.
i like your idea of the light and dark mix, done right this could be wicked.

Vintage, I understood your reply completely. Thinking this through I might use a veneer inserted into the original guage frame and then do something similar on the dash. I like how dongc1s looks. I am using larger guages and plan to put the speedo and tach in the original guage panel and the other samller guages on the center dash panel. I am now thinking of wrapping the center panel in aluminum and then sanding the original outer chrome on the guage panel to look like aluminum. Then perhaps a stripe of a lighter wood through the center of the wood interts. Not sure. Just gathering ideas.

I keep telling my son's that we can do whatever we want as long and skill and money holds out.

Keep the pic coming if you dont mind.
