Idle Issue

I have a 2002 F150 2wd with the 4.6. Past week or so the idle has been running between 50-100 higher than usual and when the heater is on and the engine is sitting at a stop or in park, surges up 200 rpm every so often (sounds like something clicks then rpms got up). Not quite sure what it is. I took the IAC off last week and cleaned it (it was very dirty) but it did not seem to make a difference. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

UPDATE - Bought new IAC no difference. still running high

I'm not sure but could an idle issue be contributed to a bad pcv valve or a vacuum leak?

pcv valve is like 5 bucks and less than 5 minutes to replace. vacuum hoses check to see if they are cracked and dry rotted.

I looked at the lines today in the sun and the only one that looks at all questionable is the line that comes out of the top of the throttle body and connects to something on the drivers side firewall. The line there says gas on it but it is the only one that looks old and where it attaches to the part on the firewall the connection is a bit loose. Do you know what that line is and what it is going to on the firewall? thanks

After checking it looks like no vacuum leaks from hoses. I did notice that the engine only surges when the heater is on. It sounds like the AC compressor is kicking on and off. Any ideas?
