351C value/advice

I'm building a 56F100. I had thought of installing a newer engine. The Chevy 350 is common and there seems allot of options available. I also thought of an LS1 or 2. Something more modern. I ran into a friend who switched projects and now has a rebuilt 351C. Says it's bored 30 thou. over, has a mild cam, hardened seats, has edelbroc intake and carb. Says he has 1500 into it, asking $1000. I've really been all over the place as far as engine choice. The attraction is this is Ford. What kind of horse power would the Cleveland have? Is the asking price a good deal? Whatever you can share will help me.
Thanks

You can't go wrong with the 351C. You have the small bellhousing bolt pattern so you have a good choice for the tranny. The horsepower depend of what kind of head you have 2v or 4v. Ask your friend what kind of piston and cam number. in 71 stock 351C had 240hp with the 2v head 9.0:1 and 285 hp for the 4v head with 10.7:1 and 330 hp for the Boss with 11.1:1

Sound like a good deal if this is a close friend. The valve job, intake, are half the price of the deal!
