Replaced the battery in my 2005 f 250 v-10. Drove about 2 miles and it died. Would not idle. Got the book out and it said I had to go through steps to idle the truck. Did that still no idle. No codes. Unhooked the battery and did it all over again. Still no idle. Please help.
Sometimes it takes up to 10 miles for the PCM to relearn all the sensor and idle values. Disconnect the battery again for a few minutes and then reconnect it and take it for a long ride. Hopefully, that will solve the problem. Let us know how you make out.
I know you tried the procedure listed in your manual, but here's what it says in my '09 manual. See if any steps are different. It's worth a shot.
1.Put vehicle at complete stop and set parking brake
2.Put gear shift in park (auto) or the neutral position (manual)
3.Turn off all accessories and start the engine
4.Run engine until it reaches normal operating temperature
5.Allow engine to idle for at least one minute
6.Turn the A/C on and allow the engine to idle for at least one minute
7.Drive the vehicle to complete the relearning process
The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn idle and fuel trim strategy.
If you do not allow the engine to relearn its idle trim, the idle quality of your vehicle may be adversely affected until the idle trim is eventually relearned.
I guess this is why most shops who install batteries are now connecting a small battery to the cigar lighter before disconnecting. They don't need customers coming back with this kind of issue.
