my wife gave me the ok to sell/trade my 03 expy listed in my sig. in the market for an 07 el. hope to be in it before we drive to fl 12/25. market not as good as it was last year!!!
cheapest i can find 07 el's for around here is about $21k, and they are xlt's. in order to swing that, i would need to get around $14-$15k for mine, which i doubt is going to happen.
It seems that the els are pretty rare, especially in the upper trim levels. We have an 08 limited but it is not el and we seem a bit short on cargo room for such a big vehicle. The seats fold down to make more room, but an el would be nice. The new expys I've seen on this end of the state have all been Limited standard length and listing for $54K. Ouch!!!
'10 EL ordered in late June. Obviously I will pay a little more special ordering. I think MSRP was around 52K for what I got. I walked out 46750 plus incentives when I took delivery which was another $1000 and 0% for 36.
Interesting tidbit, overall 09 - 10s only had about a $300 upper between MSRPs, but invoices went up around $1000. This is implying dealers are paying more for them, but customers don't get it all passed to them?
Ford has really scaled back on their production of the Expy. I see the 2010 EL's out here, but my local Dealership tends to order the loaded out models, and only 1-2 of the cheaper models.
The price started out at almost $50k...but I kept negotiating and finally got them to play ball. I still overpaid by about $3k though...damnit
I know these things hold their value somewhat. I've seen a few guys buy nice 07/08's used for $25-30k.
I picked up my 07 tri color white limited with every option available on that year model except rear air ride but it did have the factory 22" wheels with only 22,000 miles for $36,000 on the road including a 5 year 72K miles ESP warranty with free rental car. Found out it was a Ford executive vehicle from Carfax thus all the options
Now its December and just turned over 28K miles as you can see I don't drive it except on the weekends and family vacations.

You sir would be correct. the time will come when buying a car will be like buying a loaf of bread. Invoice will mirror MSRP someday.
