Does anybody know if Ford sends their dealers different temprature thermostats in different ares of the states? I live in Georgia and bought, from the dealer a 190 degree thermostat. I went to Ohio for Thanksgiving and on the way there the thermostat seemed to stick open. Where my 1987 F250 n/a 6.9 had been running 190 before I went to Ohio, it suddenly was verying from 190 to 170 running the interstate. After I got off the interstate and was running back roads the temp dropped to 140 to 150. I got a thermostat from the local Ford dealer and it only runs 180 on back roads and the interstate. If I remember right, the Ford parts guy told me Ford only had 1 thermostat for the 6.9.
Ford must of had more than one, my 6.9 use to have a 190* but it was running to hot all the time for my liking (big wind load) so I changed it with a 180*, acually made a big differents.
Do you guys have a temp gauge reading the coolant temp? My stock gauge most of the time stays smack dab in the middle which I like but sometimes moves up to about 3/4 hot which I'm not sure why. Makes me wonder if this is a normal thing or if there is an underlying problem somewhere.
mine runs on the O of NORMAL. Rarely moves unless under load. Could be the gasses gauge but you cant beat the triple pillar pod with a temp, pyro, and real oil pressure. I am almost ready to buy it all. Install will be a snap too since it is already the stock red color and premade!
Stock gauges aren't the best to rely on. My 7.3 empty never even gets to the N of NORMAL. And my 6.9 sits right in the middle all the time around RM (they both have 180* thermostats).
