Question Converting FI to Carb

I know it ain't a ford but didn't get anywhere in "General Automotive" section. So I want to get my 85 Blazer back up and running it has a 97 350 in it with FI never ran with this paticular engine, so its sorta half-assed converted. I am looking at the cheapest way to get it running and pass smog I live in California. Is it possible to convert this engine to run on a carb and pass smog? Or should I just find another 350 closer to 85? Thanks everybody.

I think you need a specific carb intake for the later 350's. Edelbrock makes some that are a direct bolt-on. Not sure about the crazy CA. emission laws though.

Yeah I think your right especially with the design of the vortec heads so it would make sense. If only it was that easy, lol.

Wouldn't be the first time I thought of that. Eventually I will be moving to Nevada can't wait but won't be for awhile. Least you are getting some comical amusement out of it, lol.

To 85e150six4mtod yeah it came with a 350 OEM I think we pretty much had the same idea keeping it and throwing on carb stuff and its on non-op. To FrankenBiker yeah I got all the sensors and junk hanging around somewhere, and you do need a fuel pump in the tank I got that somewhere too, lol. I love diesel interesting idea I never really explored that...hmm...thought about the cummins swap and all but not the old 6.2/6.5. I got a ton of time and patience, money yes/no. So idk.

I think that they would only be looking for it to have items, and/or be setup the same as it was stock, so if it came with a carb, you should be fine with a carb. but you will still need stuff like cats and vapor canistor, etc.

daveyboy1 yes I believe it was equipped originally with a 4 barrel carb, it was optioned to the max on everything when new. I have looked at the Edelbrock stuff coincidentally and think this is the best route. I know all to well the 2 bbl and 4bbl debate in Cali when getting smogged. Had that prob with my old '76 F250. Now all I have to do is get the money together and get it done. Thanks everybody. I don't know what I would do without you.

Here's a good carb to go with it: (2nd carb from top #1400) Edelbrock.com - Carburetors & Accessories - Performer Series Carburetors
It's said to be 50 state legal for vehicles 1980 and older, so it still may help out with your emissions situation.

Seems a few of us are barking up the same tree. Probably should just get this Edelbrock 20274 Edelbrock Intake Manifold & Single Carb Kits or Edelbrock 20284 Edelbrock Intake Manifold & Single Carb Kits

Thanks for your input. Throw a couple votes my way want to know what everyone thinks I should do in the 650 cfm vs 800 cfm carb setup. I believe in that bigger is always better, lol.

Smaller is always better when it comes to carbs, emissions and street driving. If you were going to wind that thing up to 7000 rpm on the dragstrip, then bigger would be better.

Smaller is probably better for emissions, however given the right tuning (boosters, emultion tubes ect) It shouldnt matter that much. Personally I would go bigger since you are going to be runing a dual plane intake, Because with a dual plane each cylinder only sees half of the carbs actual CFM. But If you are going to just bolt on and go Id go smaller. JMO ->Dave<-
