tranny shift points

First of all, i want to say what a great help this sight is. Alot of my questions have been answered just by reading through other post. anyway my 97 250 has a neck breaking 2-3 shift. I saw where people drilled out the valve body to make this happen, how can i tell if this was done to my truck,if so, is it reversable? also sometimes it seems to up shift instead of downshifting when iam trying to accelerate. help.

That happened with mine after I drilled the Acc. Body and one hole was slightly too big.

Did it just happen suddenly or has it been like that since you owned the truck?

If it just started suddenly there might be something sticking. If not, check out this thread and you will see where the holes are drilled to do it.

You have to drop the pan, pull the filter out and then take off the Acc. Body. It's the front-most piece in there.

If it is drilled out you can have the holes welded shut (not easy to do) or what I was told by a local tranny builder was to stick a small piece of wire through the hole and bend it on both sides so it blocks the hole.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

Oh yeah, is it harsh all the time? Or is it only harsh under hard throttle? Does it shift easier if you aren't giving it much gas?

Sounds like a Accumulator Body or Valve body issue.

Maybe a faulty Speed Sensor (located on top of the rear diff) Maybe try pull it out an wiping it off with a clean rag. Sometimes it gets gunk on it and messes things up.

Also make sure your fluid is clean, filter is good, proper amount of fluid?

Have you been able to check for trouble codes? That will go a long way in determining what the problem might be.

If you're getting a P0500 (Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction) you might need to replace the VSS to correct the problem. Have the code(s) cleared after you fix the problem.
