250 LD Springs

Im guessing the 97-99 F250 LD rear springs are heavier then the F150's standard springs. Are they the same length and width and just have more leafs ??? or are they a different size?

Need heavier springs on my F150 to tow a boat but dont wanna spend money on a good set of helper springs...hopeing I could get away with stiffer 250 springs easily. Any thoughts or ideas???

Thanks

The only thing they did different on the 250 was added one extra spring in the back nothing else.

I put an add a leaf into my rear spring packs. It was the middle spring i believe and added 900lb of force to it. Lifted the rear of the truck about 2in. I have had 3500lb gravel in the bed of my truck and still have 1.5in of travel to get to my bump stops.

It only costed me roughly $100 from a local spring shop.

im not to worried about bed weight capacity im worried about heavy tongue weight. I would like for it not to sag to much when I get a trailer to pull my 79 around. Im not rich so it will probably be some $500 old heavy a$$ equip trailer. My wide mud tires wont fit on a car hauler...

your amount of sag will be resolved ther same way. The F-250LD just added one extra leaf to the pack i believe. But its harder to pull the leafs out and swap than to just add a leaf into the existing pack.

Spring just generate a upward force on the truck, dosnt matter if its towing or in the bed. Stiffer spring will sag less than a softer spring under the same loads. So if you wanting to cure some sag issues, add a leaf to your spring pack.

Im not talking about the simple bolt on system, im refering to the type that you acutally seperate the leaves in the pack and put another one in.

I understand...either way you have to take the springs out...I was just thinking about ease and cost. I went to car-part.com ( a junkyard search engine) and found 250 leafs for 50-75 bucks. I could just swap them right in and save my self hassle of redo-ing stock springs...then I still have stock ones too. I was just wondering if anyone had done it before and if it was worth it...or wether I should go with the extra leaf or helper springs route.

EDIT- where did you get your extra leaf??? and how much??

oh =-( Every shop down here in Naples is expensive...I could do myself, its not that difficult to rebuild a set of springs. if I knew where to find the extra leaf cheap enough it would work.
