What is the little lever device on the passanger side of the crossover pipe? It puzzles me to its purpose

My major powers of deduction tell me this question regards a 56 F100, but that's only because I saw your other post.

Is this question about the crossover exhaust pipe (front of the engine) on a stock 272? Or the crossover pipe on an aftermarket post-collector header setup?

Help us... we'll help you.

Look like this? If so it’s the heart riser valve and it has a bimetallic spring that is closed when the engine is cold and keeps the exhaust gases circulating to speed engine warm up.

oh ya sorry. its a 56 f 100 272 v8. It has the cross over that is in front of the engine. It is the heat riser valve. Interesting. It was curuous about its purpose. COOL, ford engineers are amazing in their innovations.

LOL, we'll see if you think so in your next post, "my heat riser valve is stuck and I can't get it open..." They are notoriously unreliable.
