I have an early 99 7.3l, I've done the 6637 mod, and cut off the cat and muffler.
Yesterday I replaced the battery in it and had the other one unhooked. Today when I drove it I stepped on it and the boost went up to over 30psi and the service engine soon light came on. I tired it out a couple more time and it kept happening, anybody else had this problem, am I putting my turbocharger in danger and should I even chip it?
Did you unhook the red line to your wastegate? The stock turbo doesn't last for long at more then 27 psi...
Do you have a boost fooler? That may be why your SES light is coming on.. I think any more then 24 psi or so it will set a SES light and defuel the motor...

Layson has it lined out for you. The only reason your check engine light is coming on is because the PCM is seeing an "overboost" condition. Because excess wear on your turbo it isn't hurting anything.
some trucks are hotter then others chipped... that is good news... but I would think your wastegate would open prior to 30 psi... have you ever adjusted it?
Check not only the red line, but the solenoid and the line running from the solenoid to the spider. Don't forget the electrical connector on the solenoid.
