Trans only has drive

Last night my trans would hardly pull the truck up a hill (fluid is/was fine). When we were ready to leave last night after the ball game it would not go into reverse or park and all posistions except one is drive of some sort or an other even the park posistion. Any ideas on what is up with this thing? In the park posistion it will not go forward because of the lock pin but you can see the wheels try to move. I puylled the pan and it is all moving correctly inside. I hate to replace it again, I put this one in in febuary of this year and it worked great till last night. it has never slipped or shifted funny.

No, I unhooked the shift rod. I know it is stupid and dangerous but I layed under it and shifted it by hand while running with a buddy in the truck to hold the brake if it moved! Luckly it sits as high as it does lol, I don't even have to jack it up to get the trans from under it when I pull it.

I drove it home lastnight about 40 miles and it drove and shifted as normal in the drive postion. There was no slippage just don't have a postion for park or reverse.

That sounds like somrthing is stuck in the valve body or internal linkeages.

But I don't know much at all about auto trannies.

this reminds me of when i had my shift lever come loose slowly and it wouldnt go into park and the shifting was acting crazy as hell. One day a bolt dropped on my foot and it all came to light because i got under the steering wheel on my back and found that the two bolts holding it on were loose and the one had fallen off.

I pulled the pan and it all moves normal inside. Also I could find neutral and it seemed to lock at all pionts but they were all forward gears. guess I will have to skip the turbo for now and get another tranny.

I am star. Well it will be a t18. I am buying the 81 bronco my stepson has. We just put the t18 in it and it was a nice solid body. I will use that tranny and put the body on my frame. I just neeed to get a few things together first. Some day I might even get that ranger torque splitter for it as well lol.

That will work sweet in the bronco. I brought a gasser tranny up with me to swap out in my dually. Personally I like them better and with the GV I will be able to split the wide ratios anyway if I need to.
