Hi all
I am having stereo issues. I have a '96 ranger XLT. I believe it has the premium sound package with the factory amplifier. The problem I'm having is that the stereo works but I am not getting any sound from any of the speakers. I just replaced the stereo and am still having the same problem. I assume that I am having a problem with the amp. Is there a fuse for the amp hiding somewhere? Where is the amp located in the truck? Can I just splice the speaker wires going into and out of the amp and just bipass it?
Any help would be GREATLY apreciated. I am leaving for Florida from Minnesota on Sunday. It would be great to have some tunes for the long road ahead.

I'm assuming you installed an aftermarket radio. What harness are you using? If it's truly a factory amplified system you should be using Metra p/n 70-5603 or it's equivalent from another brand. Should look like this.
If that's what you're using, make sure you have the blue/white wire on the harness hooked up...it's the factory amp turn on wire. You won't get any sound w/o this wire hooked up.
From what I can tell I have it all hooked up right but still no sound. I was having this same problem with the factory stereo. Eveything on the stereo work but no sound so I am assuming the amp is no longer working. Does anyone know where it is located in a '96 ranger. At this point I am hoping to just bypass the amp all together. The new stereo should power the speakers just fine on its own.
If the factory radio didn't produce sound either then you are correct, your amplifier is probably dead. Easiest way to bypass it is to do what you said and loop the wires coming in/out of the amp. It's probably either under one of the seats or behind one of the rear panels...that's where Ford puts most of their amps. Other option is to just run new speaker wire from the radio to the speakers.
