how much is a new 6 liter motor? ive heard somewhere around $13000 for a new one but that is including labor. im just curious because some guy is selling one on craigslist for $5500 and im wondering if this is some kind of crazy good deal.
I have seen complete 6.0 longblock engine, with turbo sell for 8,000.00 for the motor alone, not including labor. I thought it was a decent deal and it was full rebuilt. I have also seen a new one sell for 11,999.00, but I think that was motor, accesories, turbo, and all electronics.
I'm in the process of building one now I called around to several places and for the most part they run $5500 for a rebuilt short block and $8000-$12000 for the rebuilt long block. I called ford and they wanted 15,000 for the long block version 1 I think. They don't sell a short block they have 2 versions of long blocks. That was also a rebuilt. I can't remember what a new one was but it was high. These were including core charge. I got mine used with 30,000 miles for ,$4500 shipped. It's complete motor from fan to fly wheel turbo to oil pan. By the time I get done doing what I'm doing to it and actually get it in the truck running it's going to cost me $10,000 total.
Depends on where you buy the engine as to how much it is worth. And as far as rebuilding the engine your self I guess that depends on what kind of mechanic experience you have. I my self grew up doing this kind of stuff so I like to do it. Granted I was mainly working on tractors and older craberated engines, but I beleave I know enough between what I learned as a tech and what I have learned here.
