I redid the entire front end on the Ex a few months back. A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a slight knocking coming from underneath somewhere. I finally crawled under there and the only thing that seemed remotely 'loose' was both of the front brake calipers. The two mounting bolts on each of the front calipers are tight but both of the actual calipers is 'loose'. I can grab the caliper and move it a very slight bit. I redid the brakes along with the front end including new pads and pins. I remember when I ordered the new pins, I tried to get the 'updated' ones that I found on guzzle's site. The Ford guy I got the parts from said that those parts didn't exist so he gave me the standard ones. I don't remember exactly, but I'm sure I matched the new pins to the old ones before swapping them out.
Could I have the wrong pins?
What else could allow the caliper to 'move' even though the bolts are tight?
It's not supposed to do that is it?
Thanks for the help!
p.s. I've posted this over on the Excursion forum also...
once a caliper is mounted and the and the brakes are seated
and broken in i dont believe there should be any movement
without a tool to pry
but not by hand
O.P. here, I understand that the caliper should 'slide' in and out a bit on the pin. This is more like a 'wiggle'. Thinking about it now, it's almost as if the diameter of the pin is just a bit small for the hole in the caliper which is allowing the caliper to 'wiggle' on the pins. I may have just explained my problem, but the pins are new OEM. I guess they could be the wrong ones.
